Another classic bait-and-switch scheme courtesy of the makers of Virus Doctor. What PC Defender 2010 does is it installs itself in your system without you knowledge and will report that your computer has been infected with some nasty malware. If one alert doesn’t get you, it will nag and nag until you upgrade to a supposedly “paid” version that will give you the ability to clean the non-existent viruses. Don’t hand them any of your credit details!
Beyond the fact that you might be giving your account details to crooks out to steal your money, the upgrade won’t do you any good. The likely thing that will happen is that your account will continue to be infected by other malware. After all, once they know you have a credit card, that’s the signal for them to start digging in your PC for more useful information they might exploit.
Before you run off and call a computer tech or reformat your computer, we have an easy fix for your dilemma. Below is the procedure on how to scrub your system and rid yourself of this awful software. As an added precaution, after you fix up your computer, don’t forget to put in a legitimate antivirus and anti-spyware suite that will prevent further infections from happening. And also be careful which sites you go to on the Internet in the future.
Symptoms Of Infection
- Your computer is acting slow. PC Defender 2010 slows down your system significantly. This includes starting up, shutting down, playing games, and surfing the web.
- You are getting pestered with pop ups. PC Defender 2010 infects your registry and uses it to launch annoying pop up ads out of nowhere.
- Searches are redirected or your homepage and desktop are settings are changed. This is a symptom of a very serious PC Defender 2010 infection.
